Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony

Last Tuesday (February 1st) we had a remembrance ceremony where we commemorate the massive Jewish murder during the World War II. I'm talking about the holocaust; where the Nazi forces exterminated about six million Eurpoean jews.

The holocaust started with the german invasion to the sovietic union. It was the assassination of millions of people; not only jews, also homosexuals, people with disabilities, Jehovah's Witnesses and other political and religious opponents. The total number of holocaust victims is between 11 and 17 million people. It took the Germans four years to end with the life of all these people.
To be a Jew was a crime, they didn't care of women, children or anybody else, all were meant to suffer and finally die. Most of the Jews were dead by 1945.
All of these people were taken by the Nazis to concentration camps; one of the most famous camps was in Auschwitz, it was created when the Poland invasion, where people died of starving, illness or other diseases. It was divided in three main sections, the extermintation, the medical experiments section and the reclution section.
Jews had a lot of restrictions and they had to followed a lot of rules that were ridiculous and unnessesary; for example, they had to wear a David star, so germans can identify them. These rules were very humiliating and sad.
It's important to emphasize that the holocaust did happened and that it was a very horrible massive murder; there are survivors all around the world that can tell their stories and that can describe their experiences.

Our remembrance ceremony was very emotive because we read some testimonie experiences about real people that suffered in that time, some of them lost their families. It was very sad to know that most of the people that was killed, was between 1-17 years. It was a very nice ceremony where we realized that we are blessed by God and that we are lucky to be alive.
